How to read the Bible in one year: the Bekome 5-day plan

A seven-day plan has no slack in it. Life gives you a sick child, a late shift, a funeral, a week of travel — and the plan has nowhere to put those days. By February the backlog is bigger than the willpower, and the Bible goes back on the shelf.

You read Monday to Friday, roughly 20 to 35 minutes a day. Saturday and Sunday hold no new reading at all. They exist so that a missed Tuesday is a small thing you fix on Saturday morning, not a debt that follows you for months.

Across a year, five weekday portions still carry you through the whole Bible — Genesis to Revelation — because the weekends absorb the misses instead of adding to them.

1. Choose your five weekdays and the time of day you'll read.
2. Attach it to something you already do: coffee, the commute, the last hour of the night.
3. Read the day's portion in whatever translation you actually enjoy reading.
4. Mark the day done, so the week is visible to you.
5. Use Saturday to catch up on anything you missed. Then start clean on Monday.

Finishing the Bible isn't the goal; understanding it is. Genealogies, Levitical law, and the minor prophets are where most readers stall — not because the text is boring, but because nobody told them what they were looking at.

Keep a way to ask questions as you read: a study Bible, a pastor, a group, or a guide built into your plan. A single answered question is often the difference between finishing a book and abandoning it.
