Privacy policy

Who we are
Bekome is a Bible reading app built by Tevuna Limited, the company behind the Bekome reading community. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you hold over your own data.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, and password (stored encrypted; we never see the password itself).
- Onboarding answers: age group, gender, country and optional city, faith background, reading commitment, and what brought you to Bekome. Your faith background is sensitive personal data under Nigerian law, so we collect it only after you give explicit consent on the consent screen. Skippable questions are exactly that.
- Reading activity: which portions you tick off and when, your streaks, and your progress.
- Ask Bobby conversations: the questions you ask and the answers you receive, saved to your library.
- Payment status: whether your subscription is active and until when. Payments happen on Selar's platform; we never see or store your card details.
- Device basics: timezone and notification preferences.
- Birthday, if you choose to share it: month and day only, never the year, used for exactly one thing: celebrating you. Skip it, edit it, or delete it anytime in Settings.
- Referral connections: if someone joins through your invite link, we record that link between the two accounts to credit your rewards.
- Broadcast preferences: whether you've turned founder broadcasts on or off, and (if segments are used) which segment you fall in, so a message reaches the right people. No sensitive data drives segmentation without your consent.
- Bekome Buddy connections, if you use the feature: who you're paired with and your shared check-in activity, so the partnership works. We don't reveal your contact details to a Buddy. Reports you make are visible to the admin for moderation. Unpair anytime; the connection record goes with it.
- Usage events: which features you use and when (a reading ticked, a question asked, a video played). We use PostHog, a product analytics service, plus our own event records, to understand how Bekome is used and improve it. These events carry your account reference, never your onboarding answers or question text.
We don't collect your phone number, precise location, or contacts.
Why we collect it
- To run your reading plan, streaks, and progress.
- To personalize the app, from greeting you by name to matching your plan track.
- To answer your questions through Ask Bobby.
- To send the reminders, broadcasts, and updates you've chosen, which you can switch off anytime.
- To bring you into the community and, if you sign in with Google, to authenticate you (we receive your name and email from Google, nothing more).
- To understand, in aggregate, how members use Bekome so we can improve it.
We never sell your data. We never share it for advertising.
AI processing
Ask Bobby answers are generated with the help of third-party AI services: Google's Gemini API processes your question text, and ElevenLabs converts answers to audio. Your questions travel to these services to be answered and are subject to their processing terms. We send only what's needed to answer the question plus your first name, so answers can address you personally. Your onboarding answers and the rest of your profile never leave Bekome.
For full transparency: we use Gemini's paid API tier, whose terms don't permit using your questions to train Google's models. Gemini's free tier works differently and can use submitted content to improve Google's services; we don't use it, and if that ever changed, this policy would be updated and you'd be told first.
Sponsored access
If someone sponsors your subscription, we record only the assignment on your account. Your identity is never shared with the sponsor, and the sponsor's identity is never shown to you.
Bible text and third-party content
Bekome shows Bible translations inside the app. Public-domain texts (KJV, WEB) carry no restriction. Licensed translations (for example NKJV, NLT, AMP, NASB) are shown under agreements with their publishers and display each publisher's required copyright notice. We don't sell or repackage these texts; we license them so you can read.
Where your data lives and how it's protected
Your data is stored with Supabase on encrypted infrastructure, protected by row-level security so each member's records are readable by that member alone (plus limited admin access for support and payment activation). All connections use HTTPS. API keys and credentials live server-side only.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. Delete your account in Settings and your personal data, reading history, and conversations go with it. Aggregate statistics that can't identify you may be retained.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation you can access the data we hold on you, correct it, ask for deletion, withdraw consent for the sensitive onboarding answers (they get deleted; the app keeps working), and complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. If you use Bekome from the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR gives you the same rights plus data portability and objection, honored identically. California residents hold the same rights under the CCPA, including the right to know and delete; we never sell or share personal information for advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of. Email support@bekome.io for any of these and we'll respond within 30 days.
Age
Bekome is for people 13 and older. If you're under 18, use Bekome with a parent's or guardian's consent.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll tell you in the app and by email before the change takes effect.
